THC vs CBD – What is the difference?

THC and CBD are two of the most-talked about compounds in cannabis for the effects they can produce.

In recent years, interest has grown around THC’s sister compound CBD.

Especially after Charlottes’ Web, a high CBD strain name Charlotte Figi, gained worldwide attention.

Figi, who suffers from a rare epilepsy called Dravet syndrome, was treated when she was five years old with the strain.

And it greatly reduced her seizures.

Both THC and CBD have potential medical benefits, and even have the same molecular stracture.

They both are able to interact with the endocannabinod system in our bodies,
because they’re similar to the cannabinoids the body naturally produces.

But how do they differ?

It’s simple: THC gets you high, and CBD does not.

THC is what makes cannabish psychoactive, and produces the euphoric effect you feel when you use it.

CBD has shown signs that it may actually inhibit THC’s ability to get you high, and reduce this effect.

It is also being studied fro its anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, anti-nausea effects, to name a few.

Though THC and CBD share the same molecular structure their atoms are arranged slightly differently,
and this tiny aspect makes a world of difference in how each compound affects the body.

THC is easily able to binf to CB1 receptors in your brain, and get you high.

But CBD doesn’t bind to CB1 receptors in the same way, and because of this, doesn’t make you feel high.

This makes CBD an attractive option to those who want the potential therapeutic effect of cannabish without the euphoria.

In 2018, FDA approved a drug called Epidiolex.
A CBD oral solition that treats 2 rare forms of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.

The first time the FDA approved a drug that contains a purified drug substance from cannabish,
and the first time a drug has been approved to treat Dravet syndrome.

So, is CDB a wonder drug?
Well, not exactly.

Studies have shown that without the help of THC, CBD may not have much effect.
In fact, CBD may have poor absorption if taken orally, with abouth 6% of the oil actually being absorbed.
Instead, CBD and THC may work better as a duo.
The activity of THC is complemented by CBD, and the two enhance the benefits of each other.

Psychosis or mental disordes
Inflammatory bowel disease

Muscle spasticity
Low appetite
Enhance mood

while THC and CBD both have their own individual benefits,
the key could be finding wich combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids work for you.
